First Year of Graduate Studies

The first year of graduate studies MMEF - Mathematical Methods in Economics and Finance is a University Diploma ("Diplôme d'Université" - DU). MMEF is an international program entirely taught in English which lasts one academic year and awards between 60 and 71 educational credits that include either a research project or an internship.

The University Diploma MMEF corresponds to a first-year level of second cycle qualifications according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) - Bologna Process.

MMEF is devoted to the training of students in the use of mathematical models in economics and finance: mathematical economics, econometrics, strategic analysis, decision theory, game theory, optimization, stochastic models and finance. Moreover the program offers an intensive French as foreign language training.

Around 40 students are welcomed each year. Admission is made on the basis of academic excellence. All applicants must be fluent in written and spoken English and have a recognized Bachelor Degree or equivalent (180 ECTS credits in the Bologna system) preferably, but not necessarily, in Economics, Finance or Mathematics. Mathematical aptitude and work experience can be helpful.

Continuation in QEM Erasmus Mundus Master

After the University Diploma MMEF, successful students who want to get a Masters Degree may apply for the first year (QEM1) of the Erasmus Mundus Master QEM: Models and Methods of Quantitative Economics.

The MMEF students have also the opportunity to choose the accelerated track to join the QEM1 of the Erasmus Mundus Master QEM the same academic year by passing the December exams of Probability & Statistics, Optimization, Macroeconomics 1 and Microeconomics 1.

After having successfully completed the Erasmus Mundus Master QEM program, students may enter one of the PhD Programs of the QEM partner universities:

The admission to the Master QEM program is very selective. Only 30% of MMEF students have been accepted in the QEM Erasmus Mundus Master.

Continuation in a French Master M2 (Second Year)

After the University Diploma MMEF students may apply for a Master M2 (second year) of the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. Most of the MMEF students apply for the following Master M2 programs of UFR27:

Mathematical Models and Methods in Economics and Finance - MMMEF

Risk Ingineering: Finance and Insurance - IRFA

Futhermore MMEF students may apply for Master M2 programs from other academic institutions  that recognize the equivalence in order to pursue their studies in France.
