Interships
Work experience schemes and Internship programs
Internships are compulsory between the end of the first year and the end of the second year, and in the third year of the Magistère. They aim at offering to the students a first occupational experience while enabling them to make useful contacts for their professional life ahead. The compulsory training course lasts at least four months.
It is an opportunity for presenting an internship report. It is also possible for the students to go on internships regarding their favourite field for one or two months every year on their own initiative at the same time as studying in the Magistère.
The internships are various and take place just as well in the business world as in the public sphere or in associations. Over the past three years, students went on internships in public or cultural structures, such as the Art and History Museum of Judaism in Paris, Publicis Consultants, Albin Michel publisher, the Coface, the AFP or France Télécom. The Institute of International and Strategic Relations (IRIS), the French Institute of Petroleum or the Franco-American Chamber of Commerce in Los Angeles put also their trust in our students during internships. Big companies of international authority also appreciate the abilities of our students.
To enter the work market, the “magistériens” are obviously favoured thanks to these compulsory internships that help to give them a pre-vocational focus, They are appreciated for their open-mindedness and their professionalism. Thanks to a rich multidisciplinary teaching they received, the “magistériens” show a good adaptability to the variety of the situations they face in business. Besides, their general knowledge is a prime asset for the public structures or the NGOs.
In a practical way, let’s consider in detail the internships performed by the current second years of the Magistère.
In the public institutions and the international organizations, during the 2006 summer, the students who finished the first year of the Magistère could find internships at the office of Phnom Penh of the UNICEF, at the French embassy in Berlin or at the French embassy in Uganda. Others worked for the Alliance Française everywhere in the world, and this year, one of our students went on an internship at the office of the Alliance Française in Bangalore.
Concerning the private companies, a “magistérien” found a post at the press relations department of the Samaritaine (LVMH group), one of his classmates was at the marketing and sales department of the Artisan Parfumeur. Communications agencies or agencies specialized in organizing publicity events such as Wellcom or Reedmindem are as well fond of “magistériens”, who are particularly at ease in the world of communications thanks to their adaptability to all the situations proper to this sector.
The world of NGOs was also particularly welcoming with the “magistériens”. Two students worked with Médecins du Monde (one in Moscow, the other one in Argentina. Besides the European Guilde of the Raid also put its trust in two students who went to a humanitarian mission in Benin and in Mauritania.
