International 

True to the international traditions of the Sorbonne and the traditions of the former Faculty of Law, responsive to today's changing times, the University of Paris 1 has signed over 150 conventions with foreign universities across the five continents. These exchanges revolve around international networks such as Europaeum, which brings together some of the best universities in Europe, Bologna, Bonn, Geneva, Leyden, Oxford and Prague, in the fields of teaching and research.

6000 students from all over the world, but mainly from western and eastern Europe, come to study as part of the SOCRATES or TEMPUS programmes. African students are joined by increasing numbers from Asia and America, and take part in specific programmes organised in conjunction with universities the world over.

Staff mobility is another priority and every year some 130 academics from the most prestigious foreign universities come to teach and do research at the University of Paris 1.

A special case, the joint international law degrees (maîtrises intégrées).

Building on the success of the joint maîtrises intégrées in law, which were set up to prepare and train the young Europeans of tomorrow, the University of Paris 1 has extended the model to history. Applicants are chosen in equal numbers from France and the partner country and, after two years' study in each country, obtain two degrees. The Franco - British joint law degree is organised with King's College, London; the Franco-German one with the University of Cologne; the Franco - Spanish one with Complutense University, Madrid; the Franco-American one with the Universities of Cornell and Columbia, and the Franco-Italian one with the University of Florence.

A new direction, the international cooperation consortia.

The University of Paris 1 heads a number of consortia which bring together French universities and professional bodies. The consortia are responsible for major international projects in Bucharest, Buenos Aires, Cairo, Istanbul(Galatasaray) and Moscow.

The importance of international research.

The place of international research at the University of Paris 1 is paramount. Not only do many researchers and members of faculty take part in major international research programmes abroad but the university also hosts many international conferences in the Sorbonne every year.
