Meanwhile, here is an update on current issues : As usual, we would be pleased to have your feedback, support, and acknowledgement on these matters.
1. 2007 SUMMER SCHOOL
Almost 30 students attended what was perhaps our best ever Summer School in Helsinki in the theme of "The Borders of Europe", including international speakers from Paris 1, Bologna and Leiden, as well as the EU, to join a range ot top level speakers from Turku, Abo and of course Helsinki Universities, the Finnish Parliament and local think tanks... We had several excellent excursions too.
The final programme is up on our new special summer school pages on our website, including reading lists, participant lists and abstracts of papers. In all 19 nations were represented from all our 10 partner universities and our new collaborator Lisbon Catholic University. We got all students to participate fully - many were quite excellent especially groups from Bonn, Prague, Geneva and Leiden. We had just one from Oxford, Paris and Madrid - all had late drop outs.
2. 2008 SUMMER SCHOOL
Next year's event is due to focus on "The Sacred" and will be in Bonn. As usual, the Europaeum will be supporting up to three graduate student participants from each of the 10 partner institutions at this event (students must pay their own travel fees). We will circulate more details soon and we will ask you to help identify potential participants from a related range of discipmines. We will though consider is this should be aimed at PhD candidates, in line with certain suggestions made at our summer meetings.
